Why did the Leafs give up on Panik?

Chicago forward Richard Panik is tied with Auston Matthews for the NHL lead with five goals. Why did Toronto trade him away last season? Mike Babcock bristled when asked about the winger, who failed to make the Leafs out of training camp last season.
